Extended Day Program Ages 5 to 12 years The Extended Day Program, an after-school program, is a core component of the Beacon Center. The program has a heavy academic focus for these students who are at the highest risk for academic failure and school drop out. The Beacon Center serves 300 Village Academy students in grades K through 6th. It’s an ‘extension of the school day’ from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m., Monday through Friday and is located in the Village Academy school. Guided coursework, homework assistance and additional FCAT preparation are provided. Clubs, activities and field trips offer cultural enrichment, leadership opportunities and peer bonding. Students can participate in creative dance, step dance, cheerleading, choir, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, CHAMPS (an integrated reading, writing and activity program) and various sports teams. These activities provide opportunities that students may not otherwise receive. |
