Our History
Founded in 1969, the Achievement Centers for Children & Families began as a pilot program. It began in response to the overwhelming need for affordable, quality childcare for low-income working mothers. We opened our doors in donated church schoolrooms with two teachers and 20 children. As community needs became evident, our program quickly grew to support these families and prepare their children for success in school. The program was so successful that we purchased and moved to a small house in Delray Beach. In 1990, we built a new preschool facility serving children 3 to 5 years and, less than six years later, we added our toddler center to serve children aged 12 months to 3 years. In October 2001, we built a 19,000 square foot after-school center to serve students in kindergarten through 8th grade. The addition of our Beacon Center at Village Academy in 2004 allowed us to further expand our programs and offer an extended day program, teen program, adult education and a
neighborhood organizer that serves as a link to community resources.
In January 2007, we officially changed our name from the Community Child Care Center of Delray Beach to the Achievement Centers for Children & Families. After growth and expansion of almost four decades, we outgrew our name as new programs and services were added to support our mission of helping low-income families.
